Four Brothers and Five Stitches

Well, the inevitable happened. We have been to the ER with a broken bone once, but never any stitches. I often have pondered how we have made it almost 10 years with no stitches. Christian had so many that he can't even count them all. I knew that it was coming sooner or later, but I never thought that with all of the rowdy boys in this house that the first recipient of those stitches would be....

my poor baby GIRL!

While I was cleaning up the kitchen from lunch, I noticed that Levi, Caleb, and Sarah had all piled into the swivel rocker by the fireplace. Aaron came by and gave the chair a "swivel" and Sarah fell out, cheek meeting corner of brick fireplace.

She had a nasty gash. It was one of those moments that you want somebody, anybody, to be there to tell you what to do! It didn't bleed very much, but I knew that it probably wasn't going to heal right without a little help of some steri strips, glue, or stitches.

Aaron was very concerned about Sarah. He told me that he was "ashamed" and asked if they would "gas" her before giving her stitches. He didn't want her to be in pain. Christian was able to come home and I took her to see a friend that is a surgeon. He graciously went to his office on his day off to see us and stitch Sarah up.

The doctor gave Sarah a drug like Valium to take the edge off and hopefully get her to fall asleep. After 20 minutes, she was silly, but NOT asleep. She kept singing and rubbing the chair we were sitting in with a tissue. She would then look at the tissue and yell "ewww!" She giggle and swayed her head around. I was laughing so hard. Then, she became a nasty drunk. She screeched at me and pinched me. She was so mean!

Finally, we just had to hold her down so she could be stitched up. THAT did not go over well. I think that she broke the sound barrier a few times with her supersonic screams. She finally fell asleep in the car on the way home.

After her nap, she was quite cranky. I'm hoping that she will be in a better mood in the morning and not so sore. Needless to say, we had a "discussion" at dinner tonight (again) about not being so rowdy and wild in the house. Let's hope it didn't go in 4 ears and out the others!

  1. Oh girl! Thank you for including the dialogue on how she was acting after the drugs. I needed to laugh out loud after hearing about this incident.

AND...the picture above of her and Christian? Be still my heart!

  4. This "drug" they gave Sara sounds a lot like the one the dentist (Dr. Kelly Wallace Hughes-remember her??) gave my son...he was a funny drunk and then it turned horribly wrong! He became a mean drunk...hitting me and staggering around! It was quite comical! Hope Sara's little face heals nicely.
